Hi all,
i was lucky enough to stumble over an ABC program "live at the
basement" featuring amos lee and find i like his style..
There are a couple of songs i felt i could have a go at but i'm having
trouble identifying the chords used in them by their appearance...
E_________
B_________
G____5_____
D____4____
A____5____
E____4______
__________
__________
_____10____
_____9_____
_____8_____
_____9_____
These are approximate as its difficult to see some of the fingering, but
does
anyone recognise these,or close approximations of them??..

You really need to tell us more about the song, in particular what key
it's in, and what chords precede and follow these ones. This one could
be Ab7b5 or D7b5 or a few other possibilities, depending on the
context.

Same comment as above. It could be Db7 or Gb7, depending what it's
coming from and where it's going.
These are approximate as its difficult to see some of the
fingering, but does anyone recognise these,or close approximations of
them??..
You can write the chord down on a music staff and the chord's name and
function can usually be more clearly seen.

This first one is Em6/A or an (E minor 6 with an A root added). I will add
that it is in the Key of (E Maj)

The second one
__________

I think would be more likely this

e__________
B_____6____
G_____10____
D_____9_____
A_____8_____
E_____9_____

In the Key of C#. This would make it a true C#7+9 Or (C sharp 7 add 9)
or if you do not play the high E string (e) it would make it a true C#7.

I hope this helps.

I need to correct my earlier post.....

The First one I told you wrong.....

It would be a D13/Ab, in the key of D maj. Or if you do not play the two
open strings, it makes it a D7/Ab. Just in case you do not know, Any time
there is a note after a slash, it is an added bass note.

The second one I said was in (E Maj), it is (E min).

No E, No A, and a G# instead of G natural. Interesting interpretation.
Pretty far from any kind of Em or any A root added chord.

the two open strings, it makes it a D7/Ab. Just in case you do not

There's no indication that the E and B strings are played.
D F# Ab C = D7b5

Only in Sweet Home Alabama.

Adding the same F note on another string,
in a chord formation that is essentially
impossible to finger, is not productive.

add 9) or if you do not play the high E string (e) it would make it

There is no D#, the note which would be the 9th of C#.

Again, there's no indication that the high E string is played.
I don't know why you're suggesting that.

C# E# B E# - I'd buy that it's a C#7. But that
chord would not naturally be found in the key of C#.

Above you said it was in the key of E Maj or E min.
There would certainly not be an E# in the key of Em or EMaj.
Post by Billy Gurley
I hope this helps.
It certainly doesn't.

?!?! How do you play that F on the 2nd string, with your nose?

Er, are you sure it was standard tuning? For example in dropped D, the first
chord could be called a D7, and the second a Bdim (I think).

Well, OK, then, there's a good clue. Keep in mind that most internet
tabs are quite wrong. Without knowing the song in question I couldn't
say whether the above chords are wrong or the ones you previously
showed, but I'll assume the latter are correct. Actually, both chord
charts could be correct - some songs have more than one accepted set of
changes.

The first chord you mentioned is a G#7b5 (notice it's got a D note in
it, rather than a D#), and the second chord is a C#7 rather than the
C#m shown above.

Thanks to all concerned..
As you can probably tell i'm not all that clued in on this music stuff, but
am learning,i don't know the key,and,as i said i can't be 100% sure of some
of the fingering,so i guess not too helpful, just thought someone may
recognize the patterns..:)
i may give my nose a try too..:P,anything that helps..
