I'm very keen to get an Maton M225.

Any owners out there that can give me their thoughts...

There are a couple of things I'm not sure about and hopefully someone here
can help.

I want to get the cutaway model (M226C), does anyone have an opinion on
having the cutaway shape with no pickup i.e. Does it effect the sound?

I don't really need the pickup but wanted the cutaway.

Thanks (I hope)

Geoff

if you ask in aus.music you might get more
mostly non-Australians here (and since it is an Australian guitar, HEAPS of
people play Matons)

my first acoustic, still have it and play it lots, is an EM125.. which is an
EM225 without white binding.

if you don't need the pickup.. that's cool.... for the upper model Matons
you definatley want the pickup because the Maton AP5 pickup is to DIE
for!!!.. very very very good... Maton don't let you put the AP5 in any other
guitar other than a Maton... the AP4 pickup for the low end Matons is very
good also.. but it's your choice.. if you don't need it save your money...

to add to that...

All the Matons.. M125 -> Messiah are brillant

Maton don't make crap guitars... their introduction guitars are fantastic..

the only other guitar for the price i would recommend is a Seagul S6+, but
that doesn't have the real Australian guitar sound that you hear when you go
to Open-Mic nights at local bars..

i've played (almost bought) a Maton Tommy Emmannuael TE and a Maton EA80C...
Wow... they both are awesome... better than the Taylor 810 and Martin D28 (i
think?)
(that said, both the Taylor and Martin were due for string replacements when
i tried them, i told the staff this and they were very friendly, told me
next time i come down to look at them call about an hour or so ahead and
they would change them for me since i'm a regular)

i wanted to try out a Messiah, but they didn't have any in stock...

Thanks heaps for that Kane,

Excellent info.

I've pretty much decided on the EM225C. ( Wish I had the $ for a EA80C but I
don't F*$k it)

Are you in Australia? if so-- I can get one from Allans in Melbourne for
$1069.00Aus, any further advice on where to purchase one?

Thanks again,

Geoff

More good advice, thanks again Kane.

I've got a shop up the road from me (Caulfield Music) which have been really
helpful.

They have one in stock which sounds pretty damm good. If they can match (or
get close to) the $1069 I'll get it there. I'll check out the stores you
mentioned before I purchase.

Cheers,

Geoff

i actually hate Allans Music.... the sh!ttest service i've ever seen... i
tried to get a sales persons attention for half and hour, they were just
talking to other staff, the shop was almost deserted and they wouldn't help
me..

i was in there bastically to pick up a guitar and amp there and then... and
had several thousand dollars CASH in my pocket.... but they didn't want it
obviously.

Billy Hyde Music in Blackburn is my place of choice... always very
friendly...

another place is Musique Boutique (i think it is called East*something*
guitars now) on Whitehorse Road in Balwyn.. haven't been there in a while..
but they once gave me a very very good price on a Maton.

anyway.. check those two out if you are able to... play each instrument and
choose the one which is best... YES.. every instrument will be slightly
different... and if Musique Boutique has a nicer EM225C but it costs $50
more... get the better one.. you'll be happier with the slight difference in
price for a better guitar...

just try them all out.. choose the one that sings to you.
