Anyone here familiar with this brand ? It was on sale used tonite at
Guitar Center for $99.00 and sounded and played pretty sweet. (for
$99.00)

I shoulda got the model #, so I dont know much else except it seemed to
me like a Telecaster copy, but the sales guy said it seemed to him more
like a cross between a Tele & Strat although the body looked more like a
Tele to me. Guy said Johnson made a fine 'Cheap' end guitar, but I was
wondering if any of you have any insight ?

Oh Yeah...The reason I thought it was a Fender Tele is I had been
looking at some of the squires and ran accross this guitar in another
section of the store...the head-stock / logo looked almost like it said
'Fender' untill I got right up on it and it read 'Johnson' <g>

Been playing Ovation accoustic, but also been playing / practicing more
lately and just wanna jam with some other drunken dudes I know from
around the 'Hood', so a cheap electric is all I need for now...not
planning on 'Gigging' anytime soon. As long as the action is fine and it
will stay in tune and its sounds okay in my buds garage, its ALL good .

OBTW...The reason I went in there...(other than to pick up a
instructional DVD)...is I got a flyer in the mail (Guitar Center) 'Green
Tag Special' 50% off on 'Dean' guitars $89.00. Anyone here familiar with
'Dean' ?

To all a good nite !

All but spammers & Flamers welcome to contact me directly.

Thanks In Advance.

Not all Johnson guitars are "cheap." I own a Johnson JH-440 archtop
jazz box: Loading Image... Street price is
$365+, still a bargain for this guitar.

As with all low priced guitars, you need to play them to judge them.
They will vary, guitar to guitar. If you find one you like, there's no
shame in the Johnson label, as far as I'm concerned.

Other "cheap" tele types:
- Try the Squier butterscotch models, some play nice
- The Squier '51 is an oddball model with strange switching and a coil
tap on the bridge humbucker
- The SX line at: http://www.rondomusic.net/electricguitar-ss2.html
- Find a deal on a used MIM Fender standard (what I did)

Sometimes all it takes is your own judgment.
